You might be asking yourself, "What do WSVMA volunteer's and staff do?". 
Here are a few of the actions we were able to accomplish in 2012:

  • Placed the economic health of WA veterinarians at the forefront:
    • Surveyed members about the economic conditions veterinary practices
    • Added the member benefit WSVMA Performance Analytics tools
    • Provided over 30 hours of economic-centered CE and seven articles in Insight Magazine
    • Completed the guide “Financial Planning for Veterinary Students”
  • Passed legislation and worked with the Department of Health to make the Prescription Monitoring Program less onerous for veterinarians
  • Met with the local Drug Enforcement Agency office regarding carrying controlled substances in mobile veterinary practices
  • Worked with the Department of Labor & Industries on the impending hazardous drugs rules and their effect on veterinary practices
  • Published the WSVMA Animal Cruelty Resource Guide
  • Identified a new source for medical, dental, vision and accident insurance
  • Provided 95 hours of scientific and practice management CE
  • Advanced animal welfare through involvement in the Farm Animal Welfare Symposium
  • Formed a task force to address the prevalence of suicide among veterinarians
  • Published new brochures, “The Risks of Unlicensed Equine Dentistry” and “Dogs and Pickups Don’t Mix.”
  • Added member benefit to protect your online reputation
  • Expanded WSVMA’s charitable arm, the Washington State Animal Health Foundation, to provide a greater role in the public.






Active Membership


Must be a graduate of a college of veterinary medicine accredited or approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Washington if the field of employment requires licensing by state law.

Must abide by all stipulations of the Washington State Veterinary Practice Act.

May vote at the general meetings, hold office, and participate in the business and activities of the Association.



(A veterinarian may qualify to pay WSVMA retired membership dues if retired from veterinary practice or employed in a veterinary capacity less than 90 days per year.)

2010, 2011 or 2012 Graduate or Current Intern/Residents


Out-of-State Membership


Must not reside or practice in the state of Washington.

Must be a member of the state veterinary association where residing.

May participate in the programs and activities of the Association.

Shall not vote or hold office in the Association.

Supporting members are those involved in the field of veterinary medicine who are not otherwise eligible for membership in the Association but desire to support the purpose of the Association.
