The WSVMA Executive Board will conduct their quarterly meeting from 9am – 3pm. Members are welcome and encouraged to attend executive board meetings and hear the discussions on issues of importance to Washington veterinarians.

Exhibit Hall Social Hour & Scavenger Hunt
Yakima Convention Center

Join us from 5 – 6pm in the exhibit hall to visit with exhibitors, socialize with friends and complete your scavenger hunt card to win great prizes! There will be appetizers and a no-host bar. Family members are welcome!

  An Evening of Improv – featuring Manic Thunder Comedy Troupe!
Yakima Convention Center

The audience doesn’t know what to expect and neither do the performers! Enjoy plenty of belly laughs as these improvisational comedians perform the type of comedy made famous by “The Second City” and the television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?”
Manic Thunder Comedy Troupe has been entertaining fans for several years in and around the Yakima Valley. Their hysterical comedy featuring sketch, standup and improv, with plenty of audience interaction and participation, is intended for all ages.
Don’t miss it! The show starts at 6:30pm, following a 6pm dinner in the banquet hall.

13th Annual Fun Run
Sarg Hubbard Park

Get your adrenalin pumping Saturday at 7 am for the 13th annual 5K Fun Run/Walk and 10 Mile Bike with colleagues, family, friends and leashed dogs along the beautiful Yakima Greenway. The course will start at Sarg Hubbard Park.
$10 donation benefits the WSVMA Past Presidents’ Scholarship Fund.

WSVMA Annual Business Meeting Breakfast

Begin the day with a 7:30am breakfast buffet and observe the WSVMA “changing of the guard.” Dr. Jocelyn Woodd will be installed as WSVMA President and the annual budget will be ratified. Come get the day off to a great start!

WSVMA Networking Luncheon featuring the VBMA
Yakima Convention Center

Enjoy a plated lunch at 12 pm and network with fellow practitioners and WSU/CVM students in the Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA). This fun event will bring VBMA members together with veterinary practitioners in order to meet, talk and dine while hearing about the VBMA and the valuable education that it provides. It will also be a great way for current veterinarians to share their knowledge and advice and interact with potential new hires. Dr. Rick DeBowes and WSU-VBMA board members will highlight how a WSU-VBMA certification will add value to the new graduate that you hire and, in turn, financial success to your practice!

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine hosts a reception for conference attendees at 6 pm at the Yakima Convention Center prior to the evening’s festivities. Relax with a beverage and visit with friends and colleagues before spending the evening at WSVMA’s Awards Banquet.

WSVMA’s Awards Banquet featuring special guest Astronaut Dr. Soyeon Yi

Enjoy a delicious dinner at 7pm and celebrate the stars of veterinary medicine in Washington State! Awards will be presented for Veterinarian of the Year, Distinguished Achievement, Distinguished Veterinary Staff, Humane Animal Welfare and Allied Industry. Current President Dr. Jim McCutchan will lead the celebration. Following the awards presentation, hear from astronaut Dr. Soyeon Yi.

“I Sang in Space”

The WSVMA is proud to present Dr. Soyeon Yi, astronaut aboard the Soyuz TMA-12, which launched to dock with the International Space Station in April, 2008. Dr. Yi’s journey to represent Korea as their first astronaut, being selected over 35,000 other applicants, and her stories aboard the Space Station, from details of scientific experiments to singing in space, will delight audiences young and old.

Dr. Soyeon Yi was born in Gwangju, Republic of Korea and attended school there. She received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). In 2002, she received an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from KAIST and in 2008, she received her PhD from KAIST in Bio and Brain Engineering. Her dissertation focused on DNA separation chips using temporally asymmetric ratchet effect in non-uniform electric fields. Dr. Yi is currently attending the Haas School of Business, UC, Berkeley where she will receive her MBA with an emphasis on technology and social impact in 2014.
